The Role
Based in our Canberra office, you will work closely with a Special Counsel on a predominantly institutional abuse practice, alongside workers compensation, public liability, motor vehicle accident and Comcare matters.
This is a hands‐on role where you will have real responsibility, client contact, and the opportunity to develop strong technical and advocacy skills in a supportive environment.
What you'll be doing
You will manage your own files and assist on more complex matters, including:
* Working directly with clients, many of whom have experienced significant trauma, with care, professionalism and empathy
* Managing files from initial instruction through to resolution
* Liaising with medical experts, counsel and other stakeholders
* Drafting legal documents and correspondence
* Negotiating settlements
* Attending court and tribunal appearances as required
About you
You are an early career lawyer looking to deepen your experience in plaintiff personal injury, with a genuine interest in institutional abuse matters.
* 1–3 years' post‐admission experience in personal injury
* Strong drafting and communication skills
* Good judgement and the ability to manage competing priorities
* A thoughtful and empathetic approach when working with clients
* A team mindset and the ability to build strong working relationships
