Position Summary:
Nepean Truck and Trailer is seeking a qualified and experienced Truck and Trailer Body Builder and Repairer to join our team in Australia. This hands-on role involves the fabrication, assembly, modification, and repair of truck and trailer bodies to meet customer requirements and comply with Australian Design Rules (ADRs) and other relevant industry standards. You'll work with steel, aluminium, and composite materials across a variety of commercial vehicle applications including tippers, flatbeds, curtain-siders, refrigerated bodies, and specialised trailers.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
Body Building:
* Fitting of structural and functional components such as toolboxes
* Read and interpret engineering drawings and job sheets.
* Operate fabrication tools including presses, guillotines, plasma cutters, and welders.
Repairs & Maintenance:
* Diagnose structural and cosmetic damage to truck and trailer bodies.
* Perform repairs including welding, realignment, rust removal, and part replacement.
* Carry out preventative maintenance tasks to maintain vehicle safety and functionality.
Welding & Fabrication:
* MIG welding of mild steel and aluminium.
* Cut, bend, and shape metals using oxy-acetylene, grinders, and press tools.
* Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with workshop safety procedures and Australian standards.
Compliance & Quality Control:
* Ensure work complies with Australian Design Rules (ADR), NHVAS and Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) regulations.
* Conduct inspections to ensure vehicles are safe, compliant, and ready for service.
* Maintain detailed work records and report job progress to supervisors.
Teamwork & Communication:
* Work collaboratively with tradespeople, apprentices, and supervisors.
* Communicate clearly with team members and customers to clarify job requirements and updates.
Required Skills & Experience:
* Proven experience in truck and trailer body building and/or repairs.
* Proficiency in welding (MIG), cutting, grinding, and general fabrication.
* Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and work instructions.
* Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.
* Good problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
Desirable Qualifications:
* Certificate III in Vehicle Body Building (AUR32120) or equivalent qualification from a recognised Australian TAFE or RTO.
* Forklift licence (LF), dogman or crane ticket (preferred).
* HR or MR driver's licence.
* Familiarity with ADR compliance and heavy vehicle regulations.
Working Conditions:
* Workshop environment, occasional outdoor or onsite work.
* Manual handling of heavy components – must be physically fit.
* Use of PPE and adherence to all WHS policies and procedures.
* Overtime or weekend work may be required based on workload.
Remuneration:
* Negotiable based on experience and qualifications.
* Overtime and penalty rates as per [applicable award or EBA].
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $43.00 – $47.00 per hour
Expected hours: No less than 38 per week
