CBC Fremantle is a Catholic school in the Edmund Rice tradition for boys in Years 7-12. Founded by the Christian Brothers in 1901, the College has served the Fremantle community for over a century helping families to raise boys who strive for excellence and Catholic Leadership in their quest to establish a more just and peaceful society.
The College seeks to assist in the spiritual, academic, cultural, physical and emotional development of boys while acknowledging the primary role of the family as educator. The College is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic new staff member to complement our busy school canteen team. The successful applicant will take pride in maintaining a clean, organised, and safe workplace; consistently follow policies and procedures; demonstrate a strong commitment to quality; and show flexibility in a dynamic environment. A genuine passion for nutritious food and its presentation is essential.
The Café Barista / Kitchen Assistant plays an important role in supporting the daily operations of the College food service, working across the main cafeteria and/or the mobile Eddy's Eats van. This position is responsible for preparing quality beverages and food items, maintaining high standards of cleanliness and efficiency, and delivering friendly, professional service to students, staff, and visitors within a school setting. This role contributes to a welcoming, safe, and well-run food service that aligns with the College's commitment to student wellbeing, hygiene standards, and excellent customer service.

Key Responsibilities
The successful applicant will:
Coffee & Beverage Preparation
* Prepare and serve espresso-based coffees, hot drinks, and cold beverages to students, staff, and visitors.
* Operate and maintain coffee machines, grinders, and beverage equipment.
* Maintain consistent quality and presentation of all drinks.
Food Preparation
* Assist with preparation and assembly of food items such as sandwiches, wraps, toasties, and meals.
* Support the preparation of items for cafeteria service and Eddy's Eats mobile operations.
* Ensure food is prepared in accordance with food safety standards.
Customer Service
* Provide friendly and efficient service to students, staff, and visitors.
* Process orders and operate point-of-sale systems where required.
* Maintain a positive and professional approach in a busy school environment.
Kitchen & Service Support
* Assist with daily setup and pack-down of the cafeteria and/or Eddy's Eats mobile operations.
* Wash dishes, utensils, and kitchen equipment.
* Maintain cleanliness of preparation areas, counters, and equipment.
* Pack food orders.
Food Safety & Hygiene
* Follow all food handling and hygiene regulations.
* Maintain a clean and organised workspace at all times.
* Operate kitchen equipment safely and responsibly.
General Duties
* Support catering for College events and functions.
* Assist other Canteen staff during busy service periods.
* Perform other reasonable duties as directed by the College Chef.
* Be able to work under pressure in a busy kitchen within a team environment & independently as required.
* Be reliable, enthusiastic and punctual.
Position Details
* This is a full-time position of 32.5 hours per week, worked Monday to Friday usually from 7.30am to 2.30pm, with a 30-minute lunch break each day.
* The role operates during school terms only, with 40 working weeks per year.
* Salary will be in accordance with the School Employees Salary Schedule (Domestic Employee – Level 2).
* Commencing as soon as possible.
* Free onsite parking provided.
