Principal Mechanical Design Engineer II in Melbourne
CesiumAstro is a pioneers of out-of-the-box communication systems for satellites, UAVs, launch vehicles, and other space and airborne platforms.
We are seeking a Principal Mechanical Design Engineer II to develop leading-edge hardware for satellites, spacecraft, and aerospace systems.
To conform with the United States Government Space Technology Export Regulations, the applicant must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., conditioned, asylee or refugee (protected individuals as defined by 8 U.S.C. ****b(a)(3)), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
In this position you will be responsible for the mechanical design of Cesium products through all phases of the development process—concept, requirements definition, detailed design, simulation, analysis, manufacturing, testing, qualification, and in-orbit support.
You will also present engineering design review materials to customers and the executive team, and participate in proposal writing.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
Responsibilities include:
Mechanical design from initial concept to in-orbit support of Cesium's products.
Thermal management design, precision machining, thermal, shock and vibration simulation and analysis.
EMI/EMC mitigation techniques, GD&T, finite element analysis (FEA), and cost analysis.
Mentoring junior engineers and serving as a technical expert.
Job Requirements and Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science (BS) or Master of Science (MS) degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
11 years of industry experience in design and analysis of electronics packaging, including thermal, vibration, and stress dynamics; 9 years if holding a master's degree.
Expertise in aerospace industry design, development, and qualification.
Expert-level proficiency with electronics assemblies and collaboration with electrical engineers.
Expert-level proficiency with professional mechanical and FEA CAD tools, such as Solidworks Simulation.
Experience with CNC manufacturing and EMI/EMC mitigation techniques.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
