The opportunity

Join our Fleet Maintenance team and help keep Council's plant, equipment and vehicle fleet running at their best, all while enjoying a genuine work/life balance. In this key role, you'll prioritise and schedule maintenance and repairs across a diverse range of Council‐owned, leased and contracted mechanical assets, ensuring our operations stay safe, efficient and well‐supported. Your contribution keeps our teams equipped to deliver great services to the community every day.

This Role Offers
* A 70‐hour, 9‐day fortnight with a regular rostered day off

This role can be physically demanding and requires you to confidently carry out all duties outlined in the job description, while also being flexible and adaptable, including occasionally responding to after‐hours emergency calls when operationally required.

This is a permanent full‐time role, currently based at Wollongong City Council's Central Depot.

Salary range: up to $101,912.40 per annum + superannuation. (Salary package will be assessed based on skills, experience and qualifications)

What You Will Be Doing

You will maximise the utilisation, reliability and performance of Council's mechanical assets by:

* Scheduling and coordinating maintenance and repairs for vehicles, plant and equipment
* Implementing, monitoring and improving planned maintenance programs
* Reducing reactive work and supporting proactive maintenance practices
* Coordinating inspections and monitoring asset condition
* Liaising with workshop staff, suppliers, manufacturers, and internal stakeholders
* Ensuring safe work practices are always followed
About You

You are a qualified mechanic (minimum Cert III trade). You have a current NSW Fair Trading Motor Mechanic Licence with strong mechanical knowledge and the capability to step into a coordinating/scheduling role.

You are confident working in a fast‐paced operational environment, can manage competing priorities, and communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders.

You Bring
* Solid experience in mechanical maintenance and workshop environments
* The ability to plan and schedule work efficiently
* Proficient computer skills and the ability to learn asset management systems (e.g., OneCouncil)
* Good judgement, initiative, and the ability to work independently once trained
* A collaborative approach and commitment to customer service and safe work practices
* Willingness to participate in after‐hours on‐call coordination when required and organising callouts
* A current Class C Drivers Licence
