Primary objective
To provide technical expertise to the Seating Equipment and Technical Service (SEAT) and Territory Equipment Program (TEP).
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide technical expertise and advice on assistive technology, seating and wheelchairs to clients, carers and health
professionals.
2. Collaborate with the user and health professionals to design, manufacture and modify specialised seating and associated
equipment.
3. Manage all the functions of the workshop, ensuring maintenance and safety. Purchase appropriate materials and tools and
ensure that the workshop inventory is maintained.
4. Undertake customisation, repairs and/or maintenance
5. Ensure equipment meets the relevant Australian Standards and is technically appropriate to ensure client safety.
6. Ensure best practice by participating in ongoing professional development, liaison with suppliers/manufacturers of products
and participating in work unit meetings.
7. Undertake administrative responsibilities associated with the position and participate in professional and program development
as required.
8. Comply with Financial and Procurement requirements required by the Northern Territory (NT) Government.
9. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken
in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Certificate or equivalent qualification in a Mechanical/Metal trade or a Degree/Diploma in Mechanical/Rehabilitation
Engineering
2. Knowledge, skills and experience in safely and effectively using hand tools in a workshop environment.
3. Demonstrated ability to problem solve, design and manufacture products that achieve a specific goal.
4. Demonstrated effective interpersonal, oral and written communication skills. Including the ability to work effectively with
people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds and those with communication impairments.
5. Demonstrated computer literacy with the ability to learn and utilise client and inventory management systems.
6. Demonstrated ability to work within legislative and policy frameworks in delivering services to people with assistive technology
support needs including the management of client information.
7. Hold current NT drivers licence or have the ability to obtain and ability and willingness to travel by car, 4WD vehicle and/or
light aircraft to visit and work in rural and remote communities.
