Key responsibilities
* Prepare reagents, stock solutions and test samples according to SOPs and safety guidelines.
* Set up, run and monitor experiments (analytical chemistry, materials testing, formulation trials) and record observations accurately.
* Operate and maintain laboratory instruments (GC, HPLC, FTIR, balances, mixers); perform routine calibration and basic troubleshooting.
* Collect, process and log experimental data; perform basic statistical analysis and produce clear lab records.
* Assist in sample preparation for external testing and coordinate with service labs as required.
* Maintain inventory of chemicals, consumables and spare parts; perform stock checks and place orders.
* Follow waste‑disposal, chemical‑handling and biosafety procedures; ensure proper labelling and storage of hazardous materials.
* Support method development and process optimisation under supervision; suggest practical improvements.
* Clean and sterilise glassware and equipment; keep work areas organised and audit‑ready.
* Prepare materials and assist with pilot runs or scale‑up activities in collaboration with engineering teams.
* Contribute to safety inspections, risk assessments and documentation (SOPs, risk registers).
Qualifications & skills
* Diploma or degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science or related field preferred.
* 1+ years' laboratory or industrial R&D experience advantageous.
* Practical experience with common analytical instruments and laboratory techniques.
* Strong attention to detail, good record‑keeping and basic data‑analysis skills (Excel; familiarity with statistical tools a plus).
* Knowledge of chemical safety, WHS procedures and hazardous goods handling.
* Good communication, teamwork and ability to follow detailed protocols.
* Physical ability for routine lab tasks: standing, pipetting, lifting small containers and carrying samples.
Desirable
* Experience with formulation, scale‑up trials or pilot‑plant support.
* Familiarity with LIMS or electronic lab notebooks.
Work environment & physical demands
* Lab environment with exposure to chemicals, pumps and mixers; PPE required. May involve repetitive tasks, manual handling and participation in after‑hours pilot runs.
