Influence How the City Manages Its Property Portfolio
The Senior Property Officer plays a key role in the effective management of the City of Launceston's diverse property portfolio, ensuring property and leasing activities support Council's strategic objectives and meet legislative requirements.
Operating as a senior practitioner, the role provides specialist technical and advisory expertise across the full property function. You will lead and support complex property and leasing projects, contribute to portfolio‐wide decision‐making, and mentor Property and Leasing Officers to build capability and consistency.
The role also has a strong continuous‐improvement focus, driving enhancements to property management systems, processes and practices to deliver sustainable, community‐focused and best‐value outcomes for Council.
Key responsibilities
* Supporting property acquisitions, disposals and rationalisation processes
* Identifying and driving improvements in property management systems and processes
* Undertaking property‐related research, valuations and documentation in consultation with legal and financial teams
* Conducting site inspections and preparing clear documentation for decision‐makers
* Ensuring governance, audit and reporting requirements are met
* Drafting and coordinating leases, licences and agreements, including complex negotiations
* Building and maintaining effective relationships with internal teams, lessees, community groups and professional service providers
* Maintaining accurate records and preparing reports to support renewals and property decisions
* Supporting the processing of invoices, rent payments and lease income
About You
You are a detail‐focused property professional who demonstrates our organisational values and brings a strong customer and community focus. You communicate clearly, establish positive working relationships, and enjoy contributing to improved systems and modern property practices.
We are looking for someone who has:
* An understanding of property management, leasing, acquisitions and disposals preferable within a local government or complex organisational environment
* Strong analytical skills with the ability to evaluate property data and provide practical recommendations
* Solid working knowledge of relevant legislation and property‐related regulatory frameworks
* Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills with the ability to manage diverse stakeholders and competing priorities
* Tertiary qualifications in property management, real estate, contract management, business administration or equivalent experience
