Long Duration Energy Storage Systems Research Associate
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Research Associate to join our team in the School of Chemical Engineering at UNSW. The successful candidate will conduct scientific research on an externally funded project focused on long-duration energy storage systems, with a specific emphasis on the development of monitoring and control mechanisms for vanadium flow batteries.
This role provides the opportunity to develop scholarly research and professional activities nationally and internationally. You will contribute to writing scientific papers and reports for international journals, participate in conferences and workshops, supervise HDR students, and engage with industry partners.
The position reports to Professor Jie Bao and has no direct reports.
Key Responsibilities:
* Conducting independent research with limited supervision
* Developing monitoring and control mechanisms for vanadium flow batteries
* Contributing to writing scientific papers and reports
* Participating in conferences and workshops
* Supervising HDR students
* Engaging with industry partners
About the Role:
In this role, you will work closely with the research team to design, implement, and evaluate monitoring and control mechanisms for vanadium flow batteries. You will also be responsible for contributing to the writing of scientific papers and reports, as well as participating in conferences and workshops to present your research findings.
Requirements:
* PhD in Engineering and/or relevant work experience
* Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research with limited supervision
* Demonstrated track record of publications and conference presentations relative to opportunity
* Strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to communicate and interact with a diverse range of stakeholders and students
* Demonstrated experience with dynamic modelling, process control, and flow batteries design, monitoring, and control
* Strong mathematical skills
* An understanding of and commitment to UNSW's aims, objectives, and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines
