Deckhand Opportunity
We are seeking a highly motivated and versatile Deckhand to join our team, operating on a vessel 24 meters or larger in the Whitsundays.
The ideal candidate will be responsible for day-to-day operations and maintenance of the vessel, ensuring all tasks are completed efficiently and to a high standard.
Responsibilities:
* Perform routine cleaning and maintenance of the vessel's exterior and interior, including decks, hulls, and storage areas.
* Conduct regular checks and upkeep of all deck equipment, such as lines, fenders, and rigging.
* Assist with the servicing and maintenance of machinery, engines, and other mechanical equipment as directed.
* Maintain a clean and organised workspace, including the deck, engine room, and storage areas.
Operational Support:
* Assist in docking, undocking, anchoring, and mooring procedures.
* Handle lines and ropes with proficiency during all manoeuvres.
* Stand watch as required, maintaining a vigilant lookout for other vessels, hazards, and changes in weather.
* Assist the Master with navigation and general vessel operations.
Safety and Compliance:
* Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures at all times.
* Participate in safety drills and training sessions.
* Ensure all safety equipment is in good working order and easily accessible.
* Report any issues, damages, or potential hazards to the Captain or Engineer immediately.
Qualifications and Skills:
* Previous experience as a Deckhand on a vessel 24M+ is highly preferred.
* A Marine Radio Operator's Certificate of Proficiency (MROCP) is an advantage.
* Strong mechanical aptitude and the ability to assist with equipment maintenance and repairs.
* Excellent physical fitness and stamina to handle the demands of working on a vessel in a dynamic environment.
* Exceptional multitasking and time management skills.
* A current medical certification in first aid and a current medical certificate.
* Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
* A strong work ethic, positive attitude, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
Vessel Operations:
This role requires flexibility to work weekends, holidays, and extended hours as needed. The successful candidate will be exposed to various weather conditions and working in a marine environment.
Working Conditions:
The role involves physical labour and the living arrangements and rotational schedules will be discussed during the interview process.
