We are seeking a skilled Communications Officer to join our team. As a key member of our Marketing and Communications team, you will play a pivotal role in enhancing the reputation and visibility of our institution through strategic and effective engagement with both mainstream and specialist media outlets.
You will work closely with senior leaders, academics, and researchers to uncover compelling stories that align with our strategic goals and resonate with local, regional, and national audiences.
In this role, you will deliver high-impact media and publicity campaigns, showcasing our achievements across corporate, research, student, alumni, and staff areas through mainstream, specialist, and social media.
Key Responsibilities:
* Develop and implement strategic publicity plans to support key campaigns and announcements.
* Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with key journalists and media outlets, including industry-specific publications.
* Proactively identify media opportunities for academic experts to contribute to public discourse, responding to media enquiries, monitoring coverage, and providing feedback to stakeholders.
* Research, write, edit, and distribute high-quality content, including media releases, op-eds, feature articles, and digital content that highlights our impact.
* Collaborate with internal teams across Marketing and Communications to deliver integrated media materials and campaigns.
* Lead the editorial process and oversee the design and production of approved publications.
* Coordinating press conferences and media visits, managing logistics, and collaborating with photographers and videographers to ensure comprehensive coverage.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
* Degree in Journalism, Communications or Public Relations and a minimum of 3 years' experience in a related role or professional experience equivalent to a minimum of 5 years in a related role.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex ideas simply and effectively.
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think critically and strategically.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong commitment to delivering results.
