Walkys Dog Training Academy is the Illawarra’s premier destination for structured, purpose-driven dog training. We operate as a school for dogs — not a typical daycare. Each dog receives individual training, structured socialisation, and a daily routine designed to foster calm, confident, and well-mannered companions. Our mission is based on the five pillars of dog fulfilment: nutrition, exercise, stimulation, training, and structure.
The Role
We are seeking a Casual or Part-Time Dog Trainer to join our team at our Mount Warrigal location. This on-site role suits someone passionate about dogs, eager to learn, and interested in developing into a long-term position. For the right candidate, this could evolve into a full-time role as our team grows.
You will work hands-on with dogs of various breeds and personalities — conducting training sessions, helping dogs develop impulse control, and providing structured socialisation within a crate-and-rotate system. You will also interact with clients during drop-off and pick-up, ensuring each interaction is meaningful and personal.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver structured training in line with Walkys’ methods and philosophy
Interpret and respond to dog behaviour using clear, consistent techniques
Maintain calm, safe playgroups and personalised enrichment routines
Communicate effectively with clients, providing updates, advice, and recommendations
Support daily operations such as crate training, feeding, enrichment, and cleaning
Collaborate with team members to uphold high standards for dogs and clients
Requirements
Prior experience in dog training or behaviour handling (e.g., daycare, shelter, training facility)
Strong communication skills with both dogs and people
A calm, confident, and proactive attitude, especially in high-energy environments
Understanding of positive reinforcement training (verbal markers, no clickers)
Willingness to learn and grow with the business
Availability for 2–4 shifts per week, including some early mornings or late afternoons
Formal dog training certification is a bonus but not essential
Why Work at Walkys?
Start casual or part-time with potential to transition to full-time
