The Northern Territory Government is seeking an experienced and strategic leader to head DefenceNT within the Department of the Chief Minister and Cabinet. This is your chance to drive Defence and national economic development at a critical time for northern Australia.
As General Manager, DefenceNT, you will lead high-level engagement with Defence, national security agencies and industry across the Territory, nationally and internationally, influence national priorities and make a real impact in the nation’s Defence strategy. You will drive strategic policy, lead cross-government collaboration, and maximise local industry benefits from Defence investment. In addition, you will provide comprehensive advice to Government on strategic Defence industry and related security matters, and effectively represent the NT Government at a range of strategic levels.
The role demands commercial insight, political awareness and strong leadership in a complex and fast-paced environment. To meet the challenges of this strategic role you require:
* Senior leadership experience in military operations, defence industry and/or private sector defence supply providers;
* Extensive experience in policy formation, strategic planning, leadership and decision making in a multi-disciplinary, agile and politically complex organisation;
* Strong relationships with senior stakeholders in Defence and government;
* A deep understanding of the regional strategic and geopolitical context;
* Eligibility for obtaining an NV1 security clearance.
The Northern Territory regularly hosts major multilateral exercises such as Pitch Black, Kakadu and Talisman Sabre, showcasing its capability as a comprehensive and realistic training hub for the Australian Defence Force and its allies.
