Legal Counsel – In-house 3 days, Hybrid, neg $ 7 to 10 years PAE We are seeking a senior Legal Counsel to be a trusted advisor to the senior management team of this Company that operates and maintains key infrastructure critical to the Queensland economy. The company has a stable history and a future strategy that includes growth, construction projects, and significant productivity gains. The company’s In-House Legal Counsel will work with a small, tight‑knit, and highly experienced leadership team. The Legal Counsel will directly influence outcomes; provide expert legal advice, manage compliance issues, and support the organisation’s growth. The Legal Counsel will require strong experience in commercial and corporate law, including contracts, construction projects and disputes. This could be your first autonomous role. There will be ongoing support from the external legal advisors for major issues. The Key Responsibilities include : Commercial and Advisory Provide legal advice on commercial contracts including negotiation of customer, contractor, employee, and consultancy agreements. Support capital projects and procurement activities Support managers regarding employment matters. Disputes, Claims and Risk Provide strategic legal advice on disputes, claims and other contentious matters. Manage dispute processes, coordinating internal inputs and supporting negotiations. Governance, Compliance and Board Support Provide legal and governance advice to the Board and leadership team on corporate and compliance matters. Support the Company’s governance framework, including advice on statutory obligations, regulatory requirements, and compliance matters. Play an integral part in the development of legal and governance risk awareness across the business. Provide legal advice to managers (including the HR Manager and H&S Manager) on Work Health and Safety, Environmental, and Industrial Relations matters, seeking external legal support when required. The company is seeking an experienced Legal Counsel who has worked in a similar role preferably in a regulated sector in a corporate environment. It is unlikely the successful candidate will have less than 7 years commercial law experience. You will need to be able to navigate and guide the company through commercial law matters taking a pragmatic approach, adopting simple solutions that do not carry unnecessary risk.
