Lead a small team and help maintain safe, clean and welcoming Council facilities
Banana Shire Council is seeking an experienced and motivated Cleaner – Team Leader to oversee cleaning operations across multiple Council facilities. This hands‑on role is ideal for someone who enjoys leading others, maintaining high standards, and ensuring facilities are presented professionally for staff and the community.
About the Role
In this position, you will participate in and coordinate the daily cleaning activities across Council Administration Offices and amenities, ensuring work is completed to Council policies, community expectations and industry standards.
Key responsibilities include:
* Leading a team of five cleaners and supporting daily work allocation
* Cleaning Council facilities and amenities across various locations
* Safe use and storage of cleaning chemicals in line with policies and legislation
* Monitoring cleaning supplies and equipment
* Reporting damaged fixtures, fittings, or equipment
* Performing labouring duties and operating cleaning equipment
* Conducting daily vehicle inspections and maintaining Council vehicles
* Preparing daily written work status reports
* Responding to internal and external customer requests
* Participating in toolbox meetings, training and disaster management activities
* Completing administrative tasks, including timesheets and records management

Essential:
* Demonstrated commercial cleaning experience
* Experience with safe use of cleaning products and equipment
* Strong written and verbal communication skills
* Ability to work independently and contribute to continuous improvement
* Commitment to WHS and EEO principles
* Queensland C‑Class driver's licence
* White Card (Construction General Safety Induction)
Desirable:
* Chemical Handling Training
* Certificate III in Cleaning Operations
This position requires a suitable fitness level for manual tasks and may involve weekend or after‑hours work. It is also classified as an "at‑risk" role requiring relevant immunisations and health monitoring.
