About the Role:
We are continually looking for enthusiastic and talented people to join our team.
Our Newcastle office is currently seeking a Laboratory Geotechnician on a permanent full-time basis.
You will work with our experienced Civil, Geotechnical, Water and Tailings groups to deliver projects successfully to meet our clients' needs. At ATC Williams, every role is supported by professionals across the business, and you will have peers, subordinates, and technical experts to share ideas with, through the varied nature of work we undertake for clients in the mining and resources, energy and property/general infrastructure sectors across Australia and globally.
Key responsibilities and activities include:
1. Sample Collection : Collecting soil samples from various sites following standard procedures. This includes labelling, packaging, and transporting samples to the laboratory.
2. Scheduling: Scheduling test programs through work orders, ensuring that all tests are conducted in a timely manner and in accordance with project requirements.
3. Sample Registration : Registering samples upon receipt, preparing test specimens, and carrying out laboratory testing in accordance with the client's instructions.
4. Sample Preparation: Preparing soil samples for testing. This includes drying, sieving, and storing samples as per the laboratory protocols.
5. General Testing: Conducting a range of soil tests such as grain size analysis, Atterberg limits, compaction, permeability, and shear strength tests.
6. Data Recording: Accurately recording test results.
7. Report Preparation: Assisting in the preparation of factual laboratory reports and providing data for engineering assessments.
8. Equipment Calibration: Performing equipment calibrations, maintenance, and housekeeping in the laboratory.
9. Training: Supervising trainee technicians and students/undergraduates in the laboratory, reviewing test worksheets prior to reporting, and inputting data into standard report sheets.
* Equipment Maintenance: Ensuring all laboratory equipment is in good working order and performing routine maintenance as required.
Knowledge, Experience and Skill requirements include:
* Certificate IV in Laboratory Techniques or equivalent (desirable)
* Qualifications in civil/geotechnical or engineering geology (preferred)
* Minimum 2 years' experience in Geology or related field
* Demonstrated experience in a laboratory setting
* A strong understanding of soil mechanics
* Detail-oriented
* Excellent problem-solving skills
* Able to work independently as well as part of a team
