The Roles:

The Town is seeking a motivated Statutory Planning Officer or Senior Statutory Planning Officer to join our Development Services team.

This is a hands-on statutory role that suits both an early-career planner looking to build expertise and an experienced practitioner ready to take on complex applications and provide mentorship. The successful applicant will assess development and subdivision applications, provide clear and balanced statutory advice, and contribute to a high-performing, collaborative team that genuinely values professional planning practice and community engagement.

This is an opportunity to work in a progressive local government where your expertise will directly shape high-quality development outcomes and enhance the character and liveability of the Town's suburbs.

Applicants should indicate in their application which level they are applying for. Salary will be determined based on skills and experience.

Key Responsibilities:

* Assess a range of development and subdivision applications accurately and efficiently.
* Prepare well-reasoned recommendations and reports for internal decision-makers, Council and the Development Assessment Panel (as relevant).
* Draft clear and defensible conditions of approval and reasons for refusal.
* Provide professional statutory advice to applicants, consultants, community stakeholders and internal departments.
* Contribute to a supportive team environment focused on continuous improvement and high-quality outcomes.

Selection Criteria: Statutory Planning Officer

You will reflect the Town's values of Friendly and Helpful, Teamwork, Creativity, Integrity and Respect, and demonstrate:

* Sound understanding of statutory planning provisions, meeting procedures and report presentation.
* Demonstrated statutory planning, policy interpretation and problem-solving skills.
* Ability to exercise initiative and sound judgement in applying established procedures and policy frameworks.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills within a customer-focused environment.
* Experience in Western Australian local government (desirable).

Selection Criteria: Senior Statutory Planning Officer

You will reflect the Town's values and demonstrate:

* At least 2 years' experience assessing a broad range of development and subdivision applications, including Development Assessment Panel (DAP) matters and State Administrative Tribunal (SAT) processes.
* Strong working knowledge of Western Australia's legislative planning framework and both strategic and statutory planning processes.
* High-level report writing skills, including preparation of complex reports for Council and DAP.
* Experience managing competing stakeholder expectations while ensuring timely, accurate assessments.
* Excellent time-management skills and the ability to prioritise workloads effectively.
* Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills with a practical, solution-focused approach.
* Tertiary qualification recognised by the Planning Institute Australia (PIA) in Urban and Regional Planning or related discipline.
* Right to work in Australia.

Why work for Town of Cambridge

* Up to 17% superannuation (employer contribution).
* Health and Wellbeing Program.
* Employee Assistance Program.
* Ongoing training and professional development opportunities.
* Free car parking.
* Free entry to Bold Park Aquatic.
* Quarterly staff cultural awards.
