Broome Youth and Families Hub (BYFH) delivers programs that support children, parents and families in the Broome community. Through our Playgroup and Parenting program, we create safe and welcoming spaces where young children can learn through play and families can connect and build supportive relationships.
We are seeking a passionate Play Leader to join our team and deliver engaging play-based learning experiences for children aged 0–5 and their families.
The Play Leader is responsible for implementing interactive and culturally responsive play experiences for children attending the playgroup program. Working closely with the Playgroup and Parenting Program Coordinator, you will help design and deliver activities that support early learning, language development and social engagement.
You will also support parents and carers to engage with their children's play and learning, while helping create a safe and welcoming space for families.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with young children and families and is passionate about early childhood development and community programs.
Key responsibilities
* Playgroup delivery: Welcome children and families and help them feel comfortable in the playgroup environment
* Facilitate interactive play experiences, learning games and shared reading activities
* Support children's social interaction and engagement in group activities
* Lead morning greetings, mat time and transitions between activities
* Set up and pack down play spaces and resources
Activity planning
* Work with the Program Coordinator to design weekly play sessions
* Use children's interests to inform play activities and learning experiences
* Implement activities aligned with the Early Years Learning Framework
* Incorporate interactive strategies from the 3a Abecedarian Approach to support language development
Program support
* Assist with meal preparation, transporting families and general program support
* Supervise and guide casual staff when required
* Maintain program resources and play materials
Reporting and community engagement
* Prepare monthly "Good News" stories highlighting positive outcomes for children
* Assist with program reporting requirements
* Participate in community activities and events promoting early childhood engagement
About you
You are enthusiastic, patient and passionate about supporting young children and families. You enjoy creating fun, engaging play experiences and building positive relationships with parents and carers.
Essential requirements:
* Minimum two years' relevant experience working with children or families
* Identification as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander, or demonstrated experience working alongside Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families
* Understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural considerations and commitment to ongoing learning
* Strong communication skills with young children and their families
* Experience supporting children's play, behaviour and engagement in activities
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Desirable:
* Qualifications in early childhood education and care or a related field
* Experience working in playgroups or early childhood programs
* Training or experience in trauma-informed practice
* Lived experience raising children aged 0–5 years
