In this role, you'll:
Be part of TfNSW's Legal and Governance branch, working collaboratively across the organisation, partnering to provide critical legal advice and guidance for sensitive and complex legal matters to support the operations of Transport for NSW and other agencies in the transport portfolio. With close to 100 lawyers spread across 4 legal teams, we are one of the largest in-house government legal departments in NSW.
In this role, you will support the transition of the NSW bus fleet to zero emissions as part of Transport for NSW's Zero Emission Bus Project. You will focus on advising, drafting, negotiating, and amending a complex ecosystem of commercial contracts related to fleet, technology, construction, and goods and services. You will also support the business in an ongoing capacity after project delivery.

About you
You are a commercial lawyer with excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to convey technical legal concepts clearly and succinctly, with an advanced ability to think and solve problems.
You will be an experienced drafter, negotiator, and communicator working closely with clients to drive commercially focused outcomes. You will have experience developing and maintaining strong collaborative relationships with key internal and external stakeholders. Substantial experience in all areas of commercial contracting (both front end and back end) is required. Some experience advising on construction projects is desirable but not essential.
For this role, you are someone who:
* Possesses a minimum of five years relevant legal experience and is eligible to hold an unrestricted practising certificate;
* Has a proven track record in high-value, complex commercial, construction, or technology contracts, either from within an in-house legal function of a large, complex organization or in private practice providing strategic advice across diverse clients, including the public sector/government;
* Models the highest standards of integrity and professional conduct;
* Can communicate and influence effectively, inspiring confidence in clients handling high-profile and challenging issues;
* Can lead challenging negotiations, draft complex contracts, and has strong business acumen, analytical skills, and the ability to make sound commercial decisions within a legal context;
* Ideally has knowledge of Government procurement frameworks; experience within the government sector is not essential;
* Is passionate about contributing to the future of NSW.
