The School of Mechanical and Mechatronic Engineering at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS), Australia, is seeking excellent international PhD candidates to join their team. Fully funded positions are available for the 2025/2026 intake to work under the supervision of Prof. Yixia (Sarah) Zhang, Fellow of the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering.

Research topics include advanced composite materials or 3D printing manufacturing technologies. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until all positions are filled.

Prof. Yixia (Sarah) Zhang is Head of the School of Mechanical and Mechatronic Engineering, Fellow of ATSE, and Editor of Construction and Building Materials. She has led over 50 research projects and published more than 420 peer-reviewed papers.

Requirements

We are looking for highly motivated candidates who meet the following criteria:

- Master’s degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mechanics, or related fields
- Strong academic record and demonstrated research capability (e.g., publications)
- Experience in experiments or numerical simulations
- Proficiency in English and meeting UTS PhD entry requirements (e.g., IELTS ≥ 6.5 overall)

We welcome PhD candidates to engage in the following areas:

- Nanocomposites and nanotechnology (e.g., nano-adhesives and coatings)
- Additive manufacturing / 3D printing of building and composite materials
- Composite materials and structures
- Sustainable building materials and structural engineering
- Numerical modelling and multiphysics simulation in engineering

Scholarship and Advantages

- Annual stipend of approx. AUD $37,000 (tax-free) for 3.5 years
