Responsibilities

* Assess, diagnose and treat patients in practice premises or own home who require medical attention and / or refer to appropriate agency.
* Request diagnostic investigations and interpret within agreed protocols e.g. x-ray, blood tests, scans, etc.
* Diagnose and manage acute and chronic conditions, including drug and non‑drug based treatment methods into a management plan.
* Prescribing and reviewing medication that is appropriate to patient needs and in accordance with latest evidence‑based practice, national and practice protocols and within the scope of qualified practice.
* Co‑ordinate the planning and delivery of care ensuring patients and carers / relatives are involved.
* Take responsibility for continuity of care for registered patients as appropriate.
* Manage and record consultations via practice software systems eg. SystmOne and AskmyGP.


About us

Burwell Surgery is a well‑regarded dispensing and training village practice. Situated within easy reach of Cambridge and the A14. Burwell has plenty of facilities to serve the local residents and has a real sense of community. The premises offer plenty of on‑site parking for staff.

We pride ourselves in being a happy and friendly place to work, with plenty of support. A GMS practice with 9,600 patients. We receive excellent Patient Survey results and have a high QOF achievement. A member of Cambridge GP Federation, Cambridge and Peterborough ICB and South Ely PCN.


Job summary

The Salaried GP will act autonomously and will participate in the care of all age ranges and presenting conditions within their professional scope of practice. They will provide care for patients by face‑to‑face appointments, telephone consultations and home visits (as appropriate).

The postholder will triage and prioritise the needs of patients from the daily request list on AskmyGP and undertake assessment, investigation, diagnosis, treatment / referral and prescribing for patients, ensuring clinical safety and excellent care at all times.


Duties and responsibilities

Work as part of a multi‑disciplinary team to deliver safe and high‑quality care.
1. Carry out clinical practice at an advanced level using expert clinical skills, critical judgments & knowledge to deliver appropriate and safe care.
2. Delivery of care in line with the National Service Framework and NICE guidelines and evidence‑based care.
3. Assess, diagnose and treat patients in practice premises or own home who require medical attention and / or refer to appropriate agency.
4. Triage and treat patients, performing specialist assessment of their needs and make referrals as necessary to other members of the primary and secondary health‑care teams as appropriate.
5. Request diagnostic investigations and interpret within agreed protocols e.g. x‑ray, blood tests, scans, etc.
6. Diagnose and manage acute and chronic conditions, including drug and non‑drug based treatment methods into a management plan.
7. Prescribing and reviewing medication that is appropriate to patient needs and in accordance with latest evidence‑based practice, national and practice protocols and within the scope of qualified practice.
8. Co‑ordinate the planning and delivery of care ensuring patients and carers / relatives are involved.
9. Take responsibility for continuity of care for registered patients as appropriate.
10. Network with other relevant practitioners eg across the PCN.
11. Develop a special interest.
12. Manage and record consultations via practice software systems eg. SystmOne and AskmyGP.
13. Work together with all Burwell Surgery staff, community teams, suppliers and patients.

* Lone Working – You may have to work alone, and therefore you are required to adhere to the relevant lone working policy.
* Risk Management – All members of staff have a responsibility to report all clinical and non‑clinical accidents or incidents promptly and when requested to, co‑operate with any investigation undertaken.


Person Specification

* Recent experience of working in general practice in the UK.
* Evidence of competence in the clinical assessment, diagnosis and management of adults and children.
* Commitment to working as part of a multidisciplinary and skill‑mixed team environment.
* Experience of working to achieve standards within the Quality and Outcome Framework (QOF).
* Medical practitioner included on the National Performers List.
* Must not be subject to any suspension or restrictions to practice.
* DBS clearance.
* Had annual NHS appraisal.
* Disclosure and Barring Service Check.
* This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order). The submission for disclosure to the Disclosure and Barring Service is necessary to check for any previous criminal convictions.
