Small animal veterinarian | stress-free certified clinic | albury–wodonga, australia

Wodonga
Murray River Animal Hospital
Posted: 20 March
Offer description

As the owner of Murray River Animal Hospital, I'm passionate about creating a veterinary workplace where both patients and staff feel safe, respected, and supported. If you're looking for a practice that is actively rethinking how veterinary medicine is delivered, we'd love to hear from you. Dr. Leanne Bailey

Murray River Animal Hospital is looking for a like-minded Small Animal Veterinarian to join our growing team.

This role will suit a veterinarian who believes how we practise matters just as much as what we practise — someone who values calm, customised care, thoughtful medicine, and genuine teamwork.

We are particularly interested in veterinarians who are open to evolving their approach to handling, behaviour, and patient care in line with current behavioural science and evidence-based veterinary medicine.

Part-time opportunities available.

Why This Clinic Is Different

Many veterinary clinics talk about low-stress handling — we build our entire workflow around it.

That means:

* Longer consultation times
* Behaviour-aware handling techniques
* Individualised patient care
* Collaborative decision-making
* Respect for nursing expertise
* A calm, psychologically safe team culture

If you've ever thought "there must be a better way to practise veterinary medicine" you may find it here.

About Us

Murray River Animal Hospital is a privately owned, Certified Stress-Free veterinary clinic located in the beautiful Albury–Wodonga region on the NSW/Victoria border of Australia.

We are a small animal practice, primarily seeing dogs and cats, with occasional wildlife and exotic patients.

Our team consists of:

* 4 veterinarians
* 8 veterinary nurses
* 2 receptionists
* 1 kennel hand

Our clinic intentionally practises differently from many traditional veterinary hospitals. Our focus is on:

* A calm clinic environment
* Longer consultations to support thoughtful veterinary care
* High nurse-to-vet ratios
* Behaviour-aware patient handling

All veterinarians complete Stress-Free veterinary training (fully funded by the clinic) and are expected to apply these principles in everyday practice.

Our leadership structure is collaborative and non-hierarchical, and we value open discussion, shared decision-making, and mutual respect across the veterinary team.

About the Role

We're looking for a veterinarian who:

* Has an interest in low-stress handling and behaviour-aware veterinary care
* Is open to adapting how they practise to suit each patient
* Values evidence-based veterinary medicine, including behavioural science
* Enjoys explaining the "why" behind treatment recommendations to clients
* Understands that each case involves emotional, financial, and practical considerations
* Can customise care rather than rely on rigid protocols
* Thrives in a collaborative veterinary team environment and respects nursing expertise
* Is willing to participate in our after-hours on-call roster

Previous behaviour training or experience is not required — curiosity, openness, and willingness to learn, change and grow are far more important.

This role suits veterinarians who are comfortable questioning traditional approaches and practising in line with current veterinary behavioural research.

What We Offer
* A supportive, values-driven veterinary team that genuinely cares about each other
* Clients who actively seek out calm, thoughtful veterinary care
* Excellent veterinary nursing support and modern equipment
* Flexible employment options – part-time now with potential for full-time in the future
* A clinic culture that prioritises psychological safety, mentorship, and professional integrity
* Continuing education allowance to support professional development
* Fully funded Stress-Free veterinary training

We are not a production-line veterinary clinic.

We are intentional about how we practise veterinary medicine, who we work with, and the culture we create.

Position Details
* Part-time role, with potential to grow into full-time hours
* Weekday shifts: 8:30am – 5:30pm
* Participation in the after-hours on-call roster is required
* On-call averages one weekday and one weekend every six weeks
Location

Albury–Wodonga offers an exceptional lifestyle with:

* Affordable housing
* Easy access to the Snowy Mountains, rivers, wineries, and national parks
* A vibrant food and arts culture
* Excellent schools and community

It's a fantastic place to build both a veterinary career and a life.

While we welcome applications from veterinarians worldwide, we are unfortunately unable to assist with visa sponsorship for this position.
