Overview

Global Field Service Engineer - Mechanical role at Baker Hughes. We deliver innovative, integrated, and secure engineered solutions for challenging critical process applications. We support power distribution and power network sectors with intelligent, engineering-led solutions and highly acclaimed technical services.

Responsibilities

- Strip down and rebuild large generators and related equipment; fault find, overhaul and clean.
- Install and commission large turbo-driven generators, sync condensers, and motors.
- Carry out mechanical alignment checks, basic electrical tests, and adjustments to machines and complex shaft systems using mechanical, optical, and laser-based systems and electrical test equipment.
- Interpret specifications and technical requirements; prepare method statements and detailed reports for customers. Attend technical meetings on site and at customers’ premises.
- Undergo training as necessary to assist winding specialists with in-situ winding repairs/rewinds.
- Carry out in office risk assessments for every assignment and record details on the provided form.

Qualifications

- Accredited Mechanical or Electrical Engineering qualification or relevant experience; minimum qualification through a recognised Craft apprenticeship in fitting and assembly operations on large high voltage rotating electrical machines.
- Experience of working on competitors’ equipment is an advantage.
- Knowledge of Health, Safety & Environment concepts, practices, and procedures.
- Self-reliant, resourceful, and a problem solver with well-developed commercial awareness.
- Effective communication skills, fluent in spoken and written English.
- Ability to undertake extensive overseas and offshore working, approximately 29 weeks per annum.
- Experience dealing with external stakeholders on site and operating remotely on own initiative.
- Good team player with the ability to work independently.
