About the Role: As a Building Modifications Officer, you'll support the Building Appeals Board (BAB) by case managing building modification and compliance applications under Victoria's building regulatory framework. This is a hands‑on, technical role well‑suited to candidates looking to build a career in building surveying or regulation. Reporting to the Lead Modifications Officer, you will assess applications, review technical documentation such as drawings and plans, liaise with applicants and relevant authorities, and assist with presenting matters before the BAB. You'll also draft determinations reflecting the Board's decisions and provide clear procedural guidance to internal and external stakeholders. What we are looking for To thrive in this role, you'll bring: * Experience or exposure in abuilding‑related environment, such as private or municipal building, compliance or regulatory settings * The ability to interpret and apply legislation, including the Victorian building control framework * Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical matters clearly and accurately * Sound organisational skills, with strong attention to detail in a deadline‑driven environment * A strong customer and stakeholder focus, demonstrating professionalism, fairness and integrity * The ability to work collaboratively in a team and contribute to continuous improvement Desirable: * Tertiary qualifications (or progression towards) in building surveying or a related discipline * Registration or eligibility for registration as a Building Surveyor or Building Inspector For a detailed overview of responsibilities, please refer to the attached position description. About the BPC The Building & Plumbing Commission (BPC) is Victoria's new regulator for building and plumbing. It brings together the Victorian Building Authority (VBA), Domestic Building Dispute Resolution Victoria (DBDRV), and the domestic building insurance function of the Victorian Managed Insurance Authority (VMIA) into one organisation. Key functions related to building and plumbing regulation will come together under one roof, including registration, inspection and compliance, practitioner discipline, dispute resolution, and domestic building insurance.
