Doral Mineral Sands Pty Ltd (DMS), has well established heavy mineral sands mining and processing facilities near Bunbury, Busselton and Mandurah *in the Southwest of WA and as part of the company's growth strategy, we are looking to broaden our mineral sands operations within the Gascoyne region of WA.*

The Metallurgist reports to the Technical Superintendent and works closely with the Production Superintendent and Mine Manager at the Keysbrook mine (near Mandurah). They provide daily technical support for the Doral Mineral Sands Mine, assist with process development, and contribute to project evaluations. The role focuses on supporting production through process monitoring, troubleshooting, test work, and continuous improvement. Collaboration with operations, maintenance, and technical teams ensures safe, efficient, and cost-effective processing that meets production, recovery, and quality targets.
Key Responsibilities:
* Monitor and optimize unit operation efficiency.
* Collaborate with stakeholders to maintain heavy mineral grade per Mine Budget and Forecast.
* Ensure processes meet or exceed recovery targets.
* Perform routine monitoring and reporting on Wet Concentrator Plant efficiency, including:
* Spiral loading and feed densities
* Spiral upgrade ratios
* Desliming efficiency
* Oversee and advise on flocculant dosing rates.
* Conduct routine metallurgical balancing.
* Provide technical troubleshooting.
* Identify and implement recovery improvement projects.
* Develop and reconcile pit-to-product models.
* Deliver technical support through personal expertise or external resources.
* Assist in developing and maintaining production statistics systems.
* Work closely with Production, Maintenance, and contractors to foster team ownership of plant control.
* Recommend and assist with capital projects to improve cash flow or safety/environmental performance.
* Recommend and assist with non-capital projects for efficiency and safety improvements.
* Support ore body evaluation for predicting product quality, recovery, and mineral assemblage.
* Set technical operating standards for operators and lab personnel.
* Provide ongoing technical training for lab and operational staff.
* Promote ownership of troubleshooting among operational personnel through knowledge sharing.
* Support peers, contractors, and consultants in completing tasks.
* Understand how your responsibilities impact others to achieve company goals efficiently.
* Assist and support personnel within and outside your department where appropriate.
Key factors to your success include;
* BSc in Metallurgy or Chemical Engineering with at least 2 years post graduate experience in a similar field.
* Sound understanding of an employee's requirements under the "Work Health and Safety Act (2020)" and the "Work Health and Safety (Mines) Regulations (2022)".
* Holds or is willing to obtain a Statutory Supervisor certification.
* Sound knowledge in process control of mineral sands plants.
* Sound mechanical aptitude with strong analytical skills.
* Demonstrated diagnostics and trouble shooting ability.
* Ability to communicate effectively with a range of stakeholders
* Sound numeracy and literacy skills.
* High level of computer literacy.
