**Whaikaha—Ministry of Disabled People **(Whaikaha) is underpinned by Aotearoa New Zealand's commitments under the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD) along with the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples and the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. In addition, the vision and principles of Enabling Good Lives (EGL), Whanau Ora, a firm commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi are foundational to how Whaikaha does its mahi.

Whaikaha is working in a tripartite approach partnering with disabled people and tangata whaikaha Maori. Whaikaha are working with disabled people and their families so that their experiences can inform changes to the policies and practices which govern the disability sector and uphold the EGL vision and principles.

We are looking for a leader who has experience in the following areas: leadership/stewardship, policy, partnering alongside disabled people, tangata whaikaha Maori and their families, and capacity and capability building. More information on these key areas can be found in the position description.

To undertake this role successfully the Deputy Chief Executive will be a disabled person, or have credibility and trust with disabled people, as well as empathy and a deep understanding of the unique and diverse experiences of disabled people.

As a senior member of the Whaikaha leadership team, the **Deputy Chief Executive, Policy, Strategy and Partnerships** has a shared responsibility and focus to develop and drive the Ministry's strategy, to ensure that the different parts of the Ministry work effectively together, comply with all relevant legislation and regulations, and to contribute to the Ministry's achievement of high levels of overall performance. They will need to work closely with the Chief Executive and in partnership with disabled people, tangata whaikaha Maori and their families to work to transform the disability system both across the Ministry as a whole and within the Policy, Strategy and Partnership group.
