The Opportunity
CutlerMerz' Power System Analysis team advises a range of clients on the electricity network connection processes, milestones and outcomes.
We provide grid connections support that leverages our involvement across renewable energy, battery energy storage system, synchronous and hybrid connections to distribution and transmission networks
Our engineers undertake steady state and dynamic simulations to analyse the performance and interactions of connections in the power system. This includes studies of load flow, fault level, voltage, protection, and harmonic studies.
As a Senior Consultant in the PSA team you will:
Provide power system modelling expertise in relation to undertaking studies in PSS/E, PSCAD and/or PowerFactory for the purposes of either network impact studies, system strength studies, and grid connections compliance against technical requirements (i.e. National Electricity Rules), to produce meaningful analysis, and specialist advice and recommendations.
Provide regulatory, strategic and technical advice to develop power systems solutions for complex energy problems.
Apply analytical strength to solve problems accurately and quickly, with the ability to derive and communicate insights and recommendations, backed by clear evidence.
Contribute to growth of the PSA team.
Manage projects to time and budget.
Prepare high quality, client-facing reports and deliverables.
Work as a team and build trusted relationships with clients, management and project teams.
Develop business opportunities by establishing external professional networks (e.g. through client contacts).
Most importantly, act with integrity and care for the team you work with.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
Minimum of tertiary qualifications at degree level in electrical (or other similar) engineering.
At least 5+ years of experience of professional experience in the energy sector specialising in Power Systems Analysis.
Proficiency with power systems modelling software (e.g. PSS/E, PSCAD and PowerFactory).
Demonstrated project experience with energy systems (i.e., generation, distribution and transmission networks) and technologies (i.e., asynchronous generators and battery energy storage systems, and synchronous machines).
Strong understanding of grid connection technical requirements, processes, and relevant legislative and regulatory frameworks (including the National Electricity Rules).
Excellent demonstrable knowledge of electricity networks, energy markets and National Electricity Market operation.
Robust diagnostic skillset and aptitude for applying structured problem-solving and analysis to solve client issues, and clarity in explaining methods and concepts.
Strong working knowledge of the energy sector in Australia and the challenges in transition, energy technologies and innovation.
Strong verbal and written acumen, including presenting qualitative and quantitative data.
A deadline orientation, with strong project management expertise.
A personable and professional approach, with excellent communication skills and an effective team player.
Experience with use of python scripting or other languages.
