DUTIES
Reporting to the General Manager, Levied and Emerging Industries, the Senior Manager will have responsibility for the strategic leadership and oversight of a portfolio of industries.
This will include:
Modeling AgriFutures Australia values and behaviours.
Developing and delivering a portfolio strategy that clearly defines research, communication, and extension priorities.
Engaging and aligning stakeholders around strategic priorities and success measures.
Implementing a Stakeholder Engagement Framework to strengthen relationships and ensure alignment with industry needs.
Supporting the General Manager in ongoing planning and reviews of portfolio performance, evolving priorities, current and future capacity, resource needs and team culture.
Taking an entrepreneurial approach to securing co-investment from producers, industry groups, government, and research providers.
Leading a team of Program Managers and Coordinators to identify RD&E priorities and delivery industry priorities in consultation with a range of industry stakeholders including Advisory Panels, steering committees and government.
Managing external partnerships—including researchers, agencies, and contractors—to ensure high-quality outputs.
Negotiating and managing contracts to deliver value for levy payers and maximise the adoption of research outcomes.

Proven ability to develop and implement portfolio strategies that deliver impactful outcomes.
Exceptional stakeholder engagement and relationship-building skills.
Strong leadership capability with experience in coaching, collaboration, and accountability.
Understanding of rural R&D systems and pathways for communication and extension.
Excellent financial, planning, and program management skills.
Knowledge of Australian agriculture and empathy for rural communities.
Commitment to delivering positive outcomes for stakeholders and AgriFutures.
DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE / QUALIFICATIONS
Tertiary qualifications in science, business management or economics or equivalent relevant experience.
10+ years of experience within Program Management including the identification of R&D priorities, developing R&D plans and supporting budgets, and commissioning, contracting and managing R&D projects.
Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in rural issues and the role of rural research and development with an appreciation of the delivery of R&D outcomes to end users.
Experience in leading team(s) to achieve high performance.
Demonstrated experience in monitoring, evaluating and reporting on program and project performance.
Proven track record of outstanding stakeholder liaison skills, management and engagement.
