About us The Department of Treasury and Finance provides economic, financial and resource management advice to help the Victorian Government deliver its policies. Economic Group The Economic Group supports the Government in growing employment, material living standards and economic activity. The Group advises on employment policy, productivity growth, macroeconomic conditions, energy, climate change and decarbonisation, industry development, business innovation, transport and infrastructure policy, and land use planning. Innovation, Industry and Employment team The Innovation, Industry and Employment team advises on innovation, industry and employment policies aimed at boosting economic growth, productivity growth and real wages. Areas of focus include industry development and transition, innovation policy, major events, employment and agriculture policy. The team supports the implementation of the Government's recently released Economic Growth Statement. The team also advises on governance arrangements for the Victorian Independent Remuneration Tribunal. Key accountabilities As a member of the Innovation, Industry and Employment team, you will: Work independently and collaboratively in the team to contribute to innovation, industry, and employment policy analysis using economic frameworks and data. Research and critically analyse relevant information and data on complex policy issues and impacts. Deliver briefings and policy advice that are timely, accurate, easily understood, accessible and fit-for-purpose. Maintain constructive relationships with internal and external stakeholders including those from other government departments to influence on important policy issues. Contribute to a positive, collaborative, and inclusive team culture. Key selection criteria Please address the selection criteria in your application in no more than 2 pages. 1. Strong economic analysis and research skills: experience developing policy advice using economic frameworks and data demonstrated capacity to advise on complex and ambiguous policy problems ability to independently draw insights from research and analysis on economic policy problems, and present clearly to inform policy development an eye for detail a solid understanding of the role and influence of State Government in policy making 2. Excellent oral and written communication: experience preparing high-quality verbal and written briefings and advice the ability to convey complex issues persuasively, including presenting economic data or technical information and effectively in plain language 3. Teamwork and leadership experience working within a team to collaborate and support others to pursue common team goals provide guidance, support and mentorship to junior team members and assist them to develop their skills and capabilities promotes a fair, inclusive and respectful work environment 4.Stakeholder management ability to identify, build and maintain strong relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, fostering connections towards mutually beneficial outcomes 5. Responsiveness, project management and coordination: ability to manage competing priorities and deliver high-quality advice under time pressure experience in providing timely and fit-for purpose advice and products for key stakeholders lead and coordinate on complex pieces of work that are important to the Department or government Experience and qualifications A relevant qualification in economics or a related field is highly desirable.
