About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced conservation land management practitioner to join our team on Kangaroo Island. The successful applicant will be responsible for delivering day-to-day activities, including asset and infrastructure maintenance, feral animal control, weed, and fire management.
The Land Management Officer will work with a range of stakeholders, including private landholders, land managers, scientists, students, volunteers, visitors, neighbouring landholders, and government officials.
Key Responsibilities:
* Asset and Infrastructure Maintenance: Implementation of the approved asset and infrastructure maintenance program, including building, fencing, roads, etc.
* Feral Animal Control: Development and implementation of effective feral animal control programs.
* Weed Management: Planning and execution of weed control programs.
* Fire Management: Coordinating and implementing fire management plans.
Requirements:
* A broad knowledge of trades, including building, mechanical, fencing, plumbing, welding, and electrical.
* Practical skills in relation to asset and infrastructure repair and maintenance, including the use of plant and equipment.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
* Experience working in a rural or remote area, with a valid Australian driver's license and experience in 4WD/off-road conditions.
* National police clearance certificate.
Qualifications:
* Practical experience in delivering 'on-ground' results and a willingness to turn a hand to most tasks will be highly regarded over formal qualifications.
Licenses, Certificates, and/or Training:
* A current valid Australian manual driver's license, with experience in 4WD/off-road conditions.
* Experience (and relevant licenses) in operating agricultural machinery such as tractors and backhoes.
* Bushfire control training and experience.
* Current first aid certificate, senior, and/or remote first aid.
* Firearms experience and current license.
Working Conditions:
This is a 12-month fixed-term contract based on Kangaroo Island. AWC reserves the right to start screening applicants and interviewing throughout the recruitment process.
