Job Title Biochemist/Cell Biologist Research Officer Job Description An excellent opportunity is available for a Research Officer / Senior Research Officer to join the Callegari Lab in the Ubiquitin Signalling Division at Australia’s pre-eminent biomedical research institute. About the Position An exciting opportunity exists for a Biochemist/Cell Biologist Research Officer/Senior Research Officer, with an interest in mitochondria, to work with Dr. Sylvie Callegari within the Ubiquitin Signalling Division. The Callegari lab uses state-of-the-art technology, to advance studies relating to mitochondrial quality control in disease processes and as a potential target for drug treatments. The lab is embedded in the Ubiquitin Signalling Division, providing a vibrant, multi-disciplinary and highly collaborative environment at the forefront of ubiquitin research. The Institute provides access to state-of-the art imaging, proteomics and drug discovery facilities. The ideal candidate will have experience in multiple aspects of cell biology and/or cell biochemistry, including cell culture, CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing, protein analyses and immunoprecipitations. Prior experience in mitochondrial biochemistry, mammalian expression systems and isolation of membrane proteins is highly desirable. The role of the Research Officer/Senior Research Officer is to contribute to the research effort and further develop their research expertise through the pursuit of projects within defined research programs. The successful candidate will report to Sylvie Callegari and will contribute to a highly collaborative multi-disciplinary research effort involving multiple laboratories in the Ubiquitin Signalling Division. Selection Criteria Essential Knowledge and Skills: Possess a PhD in a relevant discipline. Research experience that has led to at least one 1st author publication in a peer reviewed journal in the field of biochemistry, structure and function. Demonstratable knowledge and experience in cell biology and/or cell biochemistry techniques. Ability to work independently and in a multi-disciplinary team. Effective time management skills and ability to work on several projects in parallel. Strong communication skills, written and oral, and an ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical researchers. Personal Qualities: Excellent communication skills and the ability to work constructively within a team environment Excellent attention to detail, ensuring that data, new methods and theories are accurate, of high quality and accessible to other researchers. Ability to manage time effectively and be reliable and approachable Willingness to learn new skills Terms of Appointment This position is 2 years in a full time capacity. Salary is Research Employee Level A ($104,071 - $111,708) or L evel B ($117,596-$139,636) based on skills and experience.
