You'll work alongside highly experienced Aboriginal Language Teachers, many of whom have deep cultural and linguistic knowledge — they just need your support to bring it all to life in the classroom.We're seeking a full-time Teacher Linguist to join us in Alice Springs, NT.This is a newly created role focused on delivering the NT Indigenous Languages and Cultures Framework through a structured, culturally responsive Language Learning on Country Program. This means you won’t just teach — you'll guide, mentor, co-design, and elevate the careers of Aboriginal educators leading this work on the ground.Your day will typically begin by supporting the morning language block (9am–1pm), followed by collaborative planning and curriculum development in the afternoon.Your key responsibilities will include:Supporting the design and delivery of structured language programs across four Aboriginal languagesCoaching and mentoring Aboriginal Language Teachers, and building their confidence in literacy and curriculum leadershipLeading the planning of the Language Learning on Country Program and ensuring it aligns with NT curriculum standardsCollaborating with senior staff to embed bi-cultural and bi-lingual pedagogy across the schoolIdentifying and curating culturally appropriate learning materials, and safeguarding their long-term useChampioning the Language Initiative Project with a strong classroom teaching lensSupporting literacy development in Indigenous languages — enabling students to read and write in their first languageBuilding strong working relationships with Aboriginal educators, families, and community EldersWhat You Will Bring to the Team:You’re not just a linguist — you’re a qualified classroom teacher with deep respect for bicultural learning models and Indigenous knowledge systems.To be successful in this role, you must have:A recognised teaching qualificationTeacher Registration with the NT Teacher Registration Board (or ability to obtain)A valid Ochre Card, Police Check, and Driver’s LicenceDemonstrated experience working with Aboriginal communities or in remote/regional contextsKnowledge of Indigenous languages and their application in educationResilience, cultural humility, and the ability to thrive in a remote teaching environmentA commitment to nurturing the career pathways of Aboriginal Language TeachersAdditionally, candidates with the following experience will be highly regarded:Experience in bilingual or bicultural educationFamiliarity with the NT Indigenous Languages and Cultures FrameworkPrevious work in community-led education or remote schoolsYou’re someone who brings professionalism, compassion, and cultural awareness to everything you do.
