Occupational Therapist - Mental Health and Rehabilitation
The Lara precinct comprises four correctional centres, offering a diverse range of opportunities for occupational therapists to make a positive impact on the lives of patients. As an Occupational Therapist in this setting, you will have the chance to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to provide specialist assessment and intervention services to patients. Your skills and expertise will be valued as you identify treatment priorities, provide advice and consultation to patients and stakeholders, and contribute to the development of local quality plans.
Duties:
* Assess and interpret individual needs to improve occupational performance through identifying functional deficits and strengths.
* Focus on developing life roles and skills required for community adaptation and integration, including skill development, self-awareness, and responsible attitude to time use, drug use, and other behaviors that may lead to re-offending.
* Take a leading role within the clinical team on occupational performance issues, functional skill development, and promoting engagement in meaningful occupations.
About You:
* A minimum of 5 years' experience as an Occupational Therapist (preferable).
* Highly developed skills in mental health, including knowledge and understanding of the needs of mentally ill people, and same in forensic mental health highly desirable.
* Demonstrated ability to establish rapport and work collaboratively, flexibly, and responsibly with consumers, their families, and carers, members of the multi-disciplinary team, and colleagues.
What You Need:
* An approved degree in Occupational Therapy recognized for membership of Occupational Therapy Australia – Australian Association of Occupational Therapists.
* Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulations Agency (AHPRA).
* Knowledge and understanding of the OT Australia – Australian Association of Occupational Therapists Code of Conduct and a commitment to working in a manner consistent with the code.
