Position Overview
Join our Intensive and Critical Care Unit Team. We are looking for an ICU Registrar to deliver comprehensive intensive care medicine to critically ill patients, participate in multidisciplinary care teams, contribute to clinical decision‐making, and support ICU outreach services. The role advances professional development through structured training programmes.
Key Responsibilities
* Providing care and assuming responsibility for patients in the Critical Care Unit under the supervision of the Consultant.
* Conducting inpatient/admitted or procedural consultations, including assessment, diagnosis, management, education, and support of patients.
* Ensuring that administrative duties related to the proper functioning of the unit and the hospital are carried out.
* Participating in Unit meetings and hospital committees, including government and non‐government agencies, as directed by the Unit Head, Director, or CEO.
* Teaching medical students at graduate and postgraduate levels and assisting in the development, administration, and organization of teaching programs.
* Assisting with research activities, collaborating with other units within the hospital and other critical care units.
* Participating in peer reviews, clinical reviews, quality improvement programs, and using information to improve services.
About You
* Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) or equivalent.
* Registrable with the Medical Board of Australia as a Medical Practitioner.
* Registered with CICM as an ICM trainee if applying for a trainee position.
* Clinical experience in the specialty, teaching, and research.
* Experience in Medical Emergency Team (MET).
* ICU and/or anaesthesia experience with airway competence.
* Effective written and oral communication skills.
* Collaborative team work in a multi‐disciplinary setting.
* Proven skills to work in critical care.
* Ability to organize and conduct teaching and research in the Critical Care Unit.
Assessment Criteria
CICM trainee applications for Basic and Advanced will be assessed based on progress in the training program, including time in program, status of Part 1 and Part 2 exams, experience outside intensive care such as anaesthetic time, status of research projects, and number of publications in peer‐reviewed journals. CICM trainee applicants should indicate their training status, the role they are applying for – Basic or Advanced – and their plans for the next two years.
Service registrar assessment will include ICU and anaesthesia experience, exposure to Australian intensive care setup, active CPD relevant to acute care, procedural experience relevant to ICU and publications. CICM trainees with deferred training time may also be considered. Service registrars will have greater exposure to ICU outreach services within the hospital.

* Indicative total remuneration package: $117,483 – $183,357 (MDP2 pro rata).
* Term of employment: 3 years, with rotations after the initial 12‐month allocation for Advanced Trainees.
