The Role

We are seeking an exceptional clinician-scientist to take on the role of Head of Unit / Professor Director of Clinical Genetics, a prestigious joint appointment between Monash Health and Monash University.

Reporting to the Program Medical Director at Monash Health and the Head of the School of Clinical Sciences at Monash University, you will be responsible for leading the General Genetics Unit overseeing the delivery of inpatient, outpatient and outreach services, while ensuring the highest standards of patient care, clinical governance, and operational performance.

This role will see you drive the strategic direction and governance of genomics across Monash Health, including leadership of the Genomics Governance Committee, development of workforce capability, risk management frameworks, and quality monitoring systems. You will lead the integration of evolving models of genomic care across multiple specialties and ensure consumer partnership in the delivery of personalised medicine.

In your academic capacity, you will develop and expand a research program in genetics and genomics, fostering collaborations across the Monash Health Translation Precinct and beyond. You will actively contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, provide supervision to junior staff and PhD candidates, and support the development of educational programs in clinical genetics.

Your ability to foster a strong culture of excellence, inclusion, and innovation will be critical in leading a multidisciplinary team that includes senior medical staff, junior doctors, genetic counsellors, and administrative personnel.

About You

You are a highly experienced and visionary clinical leader with a strong academic track record and a passion for improving patient outcomes through innovation in genetics and genomics.

To be successful, you will have:

· Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) and advanced training in Genetics

· Eligibility for specialist registration with the Medical Board of Australia

· Extensive experience in clinical leadership within a tertiary teaching hospital

· Expertise in adult and cancer genetics

· Demonstrated leadership in research, education, and clinical innovation

· Excellent communication, governance, and stakeholder engagement skills

· A PhD or MD (or progress towards a higher research degree) is highly desirable
