This role provides senior project and technical leadership for delivery of the Wangetti Trail, a high-profile ecotourism project in the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area supporting the Queensland Government’s Destination 2045 vision. Working within a multidisciplinary team, the position leads complex planning and delivery activities for the trail and associated visitor infrastructure across Mowbray and Macalister Range national parks, ensuring works are scoped and delivered in line with legislation, approval conditions, relevant standards and departmental policies.
A key focus of the role is managing the technical development and delivery of the project, including approvals, design briefs, specifications, procurement and contract administration. The position provides authoritative advice on risk, constructability and compliance in a sensitive protected area setting, while maintaining an on-ground presence to verify site constraints, monitor construction quality, undertake inspections and support continuous improvement in project delivery and governance.
The role also requires strong leadership and relationship management skills to build trust and alignment across a complex stakeholder environment, including First Nations People, local government, delivery partners, community representatives and senior executives. The position is expected to maintain a strong commitment to governance and accountability, represent the project confidently in high-level forums, and provide clear, timely reporting, presentations and advice to support executive and departmental decision-making.
