Financial Accountant Job Description
Sydney Water is seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Financial Accountant to join our Finance team. This role plays a vital part in ensuring the accurate, timely, and efficient processing of treasury and general ledger transactions, while also supporting broader accounting functions including fixed assets and financial reporting.
* Our Financial Accountant will oversee daily treasury operations including cash flow forecasting, TCorp transactions, and intra-day bank monitoring to ensure accurate settlements and liquidity management.
* They will provide strong analytical expertise in modelling of historical cash inflows and outflows and forecasting future cash inflows and outflows over short, medium, and long-term periods.
* The successful candidate will contribute to establishing and implementing Treasury process improvements for more accurate forecasting and timely reporting to the Treasury Manager.
* They will prepare complex reconciliations and review general ledger account reconciliations, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and statutory requirements.
* The Financial Accountant will support the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual cash flow reports, audit work papers, and financial statements in collaboration with Corporate Finance.
* They will provide system and process improvement input, including user acceptance testing, service ticket management, and disaster recovery testing.
* The role will involve contributing to team coordination, coaching, and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of financial operations.
* The ideal candidate will possess a 'can-do' attitude and be able to work effectively in a positive and flexible team environment.
Key Requirements:
* Proven expertise in cash flow forecasting, liquidity management, and handling investment and borrowing activities.
* Strong analytical skills with a track record of implementing process and reporting improvements.
* Advanced technical capability in general ledger reconciliations, financial reporting, and resolving complex accounting issues.
* Sound knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards and asset management systems with CPA/CA qualification or equivalent.
* Minimum of 5 years post-qualification experience in a relevant field.
* Excellent interpersonal, communication, and client service skills, with a critical thinking approach to problem-solving.
