About Us
The Aboriginal Training Manager is a member of the Department of Justice and Community Safety within the People, Safety and Culture team. The role is responsible for managing and leading the development and delivery of the department's Aboriginal Cultural Training.
Operating under the guidance of the department's Aboriginal Justice Agreement Phase 4, the Aboriginal Cultural Training is regularly delivered to all divisions of the department and is tailored to accommodate specific business units or program area needs.
This role will work in partnership with the Aboriginal Workforce unit, who are responsible for the development and delivery of the department's Aboriginal Employment Strategy and associated talent retention programs. The role will also work closely with the Aboriginal Justice Group to obtain input and gain support for the educational program.
About the Role
The Aboriginal Training Manager is an exciting role that will take the department's cultural education to the next level. Building on ten years of Aboriginal Cultural Awareness training the successful applicant will develop an integrated curriculum to embed cultural safety throughout the department. Some of your duties will include:
- Designing and delivering cultural training across the department
- Establishing a delivery model and a panel of external providers to meet the demand of cultural training
- Developing a Training program that includes elearning, virtual and in-person facilitator lead training and support documents
- Manage a reference group of staff and Community members to guide the training content
- Liaise with the Aboriginal Community and staff across the department to ensure the education program is meeting their needs.
About You
You will have a passion for teaching others about your culture and desire to improve cultural safety for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders in the justice system and staff working in the department. Some of the skills that will be required to fulfill the role are:
- Excellent knowledge of Aboriginal culture and society and understanding of historical and contemporary issues relating to Aboriginal Victorians.
- Strong knowledge of, and demonstrated experience, working with Aboriginal communities and advisory groups, including sophisticated and culturally aware stakeholder engagement.
- Ability to build highly effective working relationships and collaborate across the department as well as strong working relationships with external stakeholders including Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations (ACCO's)and Traditional Owners groups.
- Demonstrated experience in the development and delivery of Aboriginal Cultural Awareness, Aboriginal Cultural Training and/or related training programs.
- A relevant qualification in education or similar is desired.
