A leading national law firm with a long‐established presence across Australia is looking to add a Lawyer or Associate to its Not For Profit and Human Rights practice in Sydney. The role is technically demanding, sensitive, and high‐profile, involving historical institutional abuse claims, regulatory matters affecting non‐government schools, and internal disputes within not‐for‐profit organisations. Responsibilities will be managed end‐to‐end under partner supervision with a focus on strong legal craft and a mature approach to the human dimension of the work.
Responsibilities
* Advise and act for institutional defendants in historical abuse claims, including managing matters end‐to‐end under partner supervision.
* Represent non‐government schools in regulatory actions and related disputes.
* Advise charities on internal governance disputes and member / stakeholder issues.
* Draft pleadings, advices, correspondence, and settlement documentation to a high standard.
* Manage client relationships with sensitivity and professionalism, including communications on confronting subject matter.
* Work closely with the partner and wider team on strategy, briefing counsel, and case preparation.
* Contribute to knowledge sharing, precedent development, and practice growth initiatives.
Requirements
* 1–4 years' PQE in a comparable practice area (institutional liability, abuse claims, charity, regulatory, or related dispute work).
* A genuine interest in this area of law.
* Solid written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to build rapport in sensitive client situations.
* The maturity and emotional steadiness to work effectively on distressing subject matter while maintaining professional boundaries.
* A client‐service mindset and strong commercial judgement.
* At least a credit average from a well‐regarded law school.
* Admitted to practice in NSW (or eligibility for admission).
