Meet your team
Our Tax Advisory practice manage a range of taxation issues. As legislative experts with longstanding institutional relationships with the ATO, this team advocates for effective tax legislation that benefits middle-market businesses and organisations.
The team provide strategic advice across a range of taxes, including: income tax, capital gains tax, corporate taxes, M&A/deals tax, international tax (including cross-boader structuring and transfer pricing), transaction taxes (GST, Stamp Duty and Land Tax), employment taxes, and managed funds tax.
We’re focused on outcomes for clients, not internal box ticking exercises. You’ll be empowered to challenge the status quo and find a way to make things happen to add real value to our clients’ businesses.
Team members receive regular tax technical training from the National Tax Group. From legislative updates, recent cases, and ATO public rulings, our training keeps you updated on the latest developments in tax.
About the role
As a Manager or Senior Manager within our Tax Advisory practice at Pitcher Partners, you will work directly with business owners and key stakeholders to provide commercial solutions that have a meaningful impact for them. With the firm’s broad client base you’ll have the opportunity to hone deep technical expertise in particular areas of tax to apply across all manner of situations and industry sectors.
The breadth of the role means in any one day you might provide advice across a range of technical tax issues as well as being a trusted advisor partnering with clients to help solve their broader business issues. The diverse spread of advice you will provide could relate to income taxes, capital gains taxes and corporate taxes in the context of structuring transactions and/or organisations to appropriately manage their taxation affairs. There is ample opportunity to grow and develop your tax career.

Key responsibilities
1. Prepare tax consulting advice on a range of issues; for example: division 7a, trust loss rules, capital gains tax, structuring and corporate tax matters.
2. Research current legislation and draft and finalise a letter of advice
3. Cultivate and manage client relationships and collaborate with internal stakeholders
4. Work with relevant authorities (ATO) to efficiently resolve tax related queries/audits
5. Project manage jobs and specific tasks when required
6. Review end of financial year tax compliance documents for large and complex clients
7. Ensuring appropriate tax documentation is prepared to support the provided tax advice
8. End of year tax planning
9. Active involvement with the delivery of internal and external training and business development initiatives
10. Manage and mentor a small group juniors including overseeing their performance and training requirements
Who we’re after
11. Tertiary qualification in accounting, law or a relevant business field, and 4-6+ years of experience in the application of various taxation matters in a professional environment.
12. Proven experience in delivering commercial taxation advice to a range of clients from different backgrounds and business sectors as well as the demonstrated ability to produce well-researched and clearly articulated tax opinions and advice.
13. Positive team player with the ability to contribute to the delivery of successful client projects and manage and coach junior team members.
14. Effective communicator, can build rapport, influence, and negotiate effectively with both internal and external clients when required.
15. Self-motivated and able to manage conflicting deadlines. You have a genuine interest in furthering your career in tax and providing exceptional advice to our clients and internal stakeholders.
