Applications for Prison Officer in Western Australia are now open. Competitive salary on offer $94,082 - $107,133 p.a. as of 11 June 2025 for Prison Officer shift (initial 12-week training salary $72,791 p.a. as of 11 June 2025) plus superannuation.
You will be supported on the job by experienced staff and management, as part of a team working to keep the WA community safe. We are currently seeking Prison Officers for facilities in the Perth Metropolitan area, Albany, Bunbury, Greenough (Geraldton), Roebourne and West Kimberley (Derby).
As a Prison Officer you will interact with minimum to maximum security prisoners on a 24/7 roster system and be responsible for ensuring the safe, secure and efficient operation of prisons and effective management of prisoners. You can make a real difference by modelling positive behaviours and motivating prisoners to gain skills and knowledge to re-enter the community, to reduce the risk of re-offending.
Responsibilities
- Interact with prisoners across security levels on a 24/7 roster.
- Ensure the safe, secure, and efficient operation of prisons and the effective management of prisoners.
- Model positive behaviours and motivate prisoners to gain skills and knowledge for successful reintegration into the community.
Qualifications and Experience
- Great communication skills to build positive relationships with a diverse prisoner population.
- A practical and common-sense approach to solving problems and adapting to challenging situations.
- Excellent teamwork with colleagues and prisoners to achieve personal and professional goals.
- An awareness and understanding of Aboriginal people and their culture.
- Experience as an adult custodial officer is preferred; eligible for Accelerated Training Program at the Academy for successful applicants with relevant qualifications and experience.
- You must be an Australian or Recent Zealand citizen or hold Australian permanent residency.
- You must hold an unrestricted Australian driver’s licence (minimum C or C-A).
Remuneration and Benefits
- Initial salary: $72,791 p.a. during the 12-week training period (as of 11 June 2025).
- Salary range: $94,082 - $107,133 p.a. as of 11 June 2025, plus superannuation.
- Annual salary progression and up to 6 weeks annual leave.
