About us

Alfred Mental & Addiction Health (AMAH) is responsible for the operation of services which focus on people with a mental illness residing in the Inner Southern‐Eastern area of Melbourne. The newly integrated Adult and Older Adult Service combines AMAH Adult Community Mental Health and Caulfield Aged and Liaison Psychiatry Services to provide comprehensive, person‐centred support for adults and older adults. We offer a wide range of therapeutic, addiction, trauma‐informed, and family violence services. In line with the Royal Commission into Victoria's Mental Health recommendations and the Victorian Mental Health and Wellbeing Act 2022, we are expanding our services to provide specialized expertise and broad‐spectrum care, including pathways for substance use, rehabilitation, recovery, and trauma‐focused care. Our approach focuses on integrated treatment, education, peer support, care planning, and navigation, supporting individuals at every stage of their recovery journey.

You'll have the opportunity to work in areas such as:

* Navigations and Continuing Care: Brief Intervention, Access and Intake, CMHT, Physical Health, and Family Services
* Adult Rehabilitation and Recovery: MSTS, CCU, PARC, HOPS, and SECU
* Aged/Older Adult Mental Health: MAPS, Caulfield Hospital Community Liaison, and inpatient units
* Wellbeing and Therapeutic Services: Psychological Trauma and Capacity Building initiatives

The Role

Consumer Peer Workers are integral members of the multidisciplinary team who possess expertise through a lived experience of mental health challenges. Through sharing wisdom from their own experiences, Consumer Peer Workers inspire hope and provide support to clients accessing clinical community mental health services.

As an integral and highly valued member of the multi‐disciplinary team, the Senior Consumer Peer Worker role has 2 components.

* Responsibility for the guidance of consumer peer workers and integrating strong processes that support consumer perspective recovery by outlining their specific functions, importance and benefits across the multidisciplinary teams. Within this component the Senior Consumer Peer Worker's position will assist in the recruitment process of Consumer Peer Workers, orientation, and the development of resources to support their practice in the community setting.
* Provide one on one consumer peer work within a client team for 50% of their time, providing input to case managers relating to areas of consumer experience based on your own lived experience. The Consumer Senior Peer Worker will be required to be self‐motivated and directed. They will demonstrate a sound ability to engage with a range of people, and offer support and information to the peer worker team who are drawing on their own experience in supporting the consumers they work with.

Support and supervision of the Senior Consumer Peer Worker is provided by the Peer Support Coordinator as well as through the Consumer Peer Support (Community of Practice) Supervision. Operationally the Senior Consumer Peer Worker reports to the Peer Work Team Leader, Adult and Older Adult Services.

The Senior Consumer Peer Worker role can offer a unique perspective on recovery that requires a different approach than mainstream clinical mental health service delivery.
