Bialik College is a pluralist Jewish school, embracing an inclusive approach to Judaism. All students attend one campus in Hawthorn, creating a close-knit community of students and learners from as young as three months old in our Children's Centre, three years old in the Early Learning Centre through to Year 12 in the Senior School. About the Role
Operating out of the College's new home for Science and Innovation, The 'Alan Finkel Launch Lab', the Laboratory Manager is a key member of the Science team and is directly responsible for the coordination of rooms and assets. Comprising six laboratories, with collaborative spaces and breakout areas designed, in consultation with the Harvard Graduate School of Education to enhance student learning and engagement, the manager's role ensures these spaces complement a vibrant teaching and learning environment.
This is a full-time, term time only, ongoing position to commence in Term 2, 2026.
Key Responsibilities
* Coordinate and prioritise the duties and activities of the laboratory.
* Maintain centralised administrative records such as Practical Request Forms, MSDS, and equipment and chemical inventories.
* Prepare stock solutions, culture media, biological stains etc.
* To facilitate the training, in conjunction with teaching staff, all practical activities before implementation.
* Order and purchase materials and equipment in consultation with the Head of Science.
* Monitor and take full care of personal health and safety and that of others within the area of responsibility.
* To facilitate the implementation of the safe handling, storage and disposal of hazardous substances and dangerous goods in accordance with relevant regulations and legislation.
Role Requirements
* Relevant post-secondary qualifications and a minimum of 5 years laboratory experience.
* Working knowledge of current OH&S legislation.
* The ability to work independently and within a team environment.
* Excellent administration and communication skills.
* Hold a current and valid Working With Children Check and be willing to obtain a Police Check.
* A First Aid certificate would be advantageous.
