We are looking for an Operational Chemist who will play a crucial role in managing waste in and out of our facility. You will ensure compliance with our DETSI and Dangerous Goods requirements, environmental regulations and contribute to the safe and efficient operation of our site. This is a new role to support our recently upgraded facility in Stapylton.
The Ideal Candidate: The ideal candidate will be able to apply their chemical knowledge and skills to identify, analyse and simulate operational processes and manage the outgoing waste to the various disposal locations.
Must have's
* Hands-on chemistry background - Trade Chemist, Laboratory Technician, or tertiary qualification in Chemistry / Chemical Engineering / Applied Science
* Liquids waste or industrial processing experience - Experience with liquid waste treatment, wastewater, hazardous liquids, oils, sludges, emulsions, or industrial effluent
* Operational leadership experience - Proven experience as a Leading Hand / Senior Operator / Shift Lead in a plant or processing environment
* Strong safety and compliance mindset - Solid understanding of WHS, environmental compliance, permits, sampling, manifests, and waste tracking
* Comfortable being on the tools - This is not a lab-only role — must be comfortable in PPE, on the plant floor, and leading by example
Highly Desirable
* Experience in pH adjustment, blending, separation, treatment systems; Chemical dosing systems, centrifuges, tanks, pumps, pipework; and ERA-regulated environments or EPA-licensed facilities
* Previous exposure to; Plant commissioning or start-ups; and Process optimisation and continuous improvement
* Forklift, confined space, and chemical handling tickets
* Experience training or mentoring operators
