The Opportunity
A newly created opportunity has arisen to join our General Counsel within the Corporate Services Division at MBS in this crucial role supporting the management of legal risk and providing advice on contracts, insurance, risk management and general legal matters.
Some key accountabilities will include:
* Provide timely, sound and accurate advice on a range of legal queries as required by the General Counsel
* Maintain an awareness of legal and regulatory changes that may impact the School
* Maintain the School's Legal and Governance Hub
* Under the direction of the General Counsel draft, review and negotiate a range of contracts and other agreements, for example donation agreements, confidentiality deeds, sponsorship agreements, external supplier contracts, variation agreements and contracts
* Manage the School's contract register and contract management framework
* Manage a suite of proforma School contracts
* Protect the commercial interests of the School through sound commercial contract management practices
* Support maintaining the School's risk management framework
* Assist in preparing Board and Board Committee level reporting on relevant matters
* Manage insurance queries and claims
* Maintain orderly record-keeping for insurance policies and certificates of currency
* Review, draft, update and maintain policies and processes in areas that are the responsibility of the General Counsel
* Act as the School's Privacy Officer and support the School to be compliant with its moral and legal obligations to maintain the privacy of the data and information obtained and held by the School
* Maintain the School's Privacy Policy ensuring it remains accurate, current and reflects any relevant changes to privacy laws.
About you
As a mid-level commercial lawyer, you will bring to us a solid understanding of contract law with broad experience in reviewing, drafting and negotiating commercial contracts. Some understanding of Privacy law and how it applies to organisations together with experience with IP Law, Employment and OHS laws and some exposure to risk management frameworks will be highly desirable. You will also hold a legal qualification with an unrestricted practising certificate as an Australian Legal Practitioner.
Your ability to confidently consult and communicate effectively with internal stakeholders at all levels of the organisation together with your strong commercial acumen and an ability to successfully balance organisational and individual needs and priorities will be crucial to your success.
