Job Description for Clinical Nurse Specialist - Mental Health Short Stay Unit
The Team:
The Mental Health Short Stay Unit is a 6-bed ward at the Royal Hobart Hospital.
The Role:
The Clinical Nurse Specialist - Mental Health Short Stay Unit (MHSSU):
1. Works collaboratively with unit staff, the MHSSU, the Royal Hobart Hospital Emergency Department (ED), Alcohol and Drug Services, and Community Mental Health Services to improve outcomes for MHSSU clients and individuals presenting to the ED with mental health issues requiring specialist assessment.
2. Acts as a clinical expert and resource for nursing, medical, and allied health staff involved in managing patients with mental health concerns, including those with concurrent alcohol or drug use issues.

You will need:
1. Demonstrated high-level skills, knowledge, and clinical expertise in Mental Health nursing in an acute setting, with preferably at least five years of postgraduate clinical nursing experience.
2. Strong written and oral communication skills, liaison, interpersonal, and counseling skills within a multidisciplinary team environment, with the ability to confidently negotiate patient care recommendations across various stakeholder groups.
3. Comprehensive knowledge of relevant legislation and documentation, including the Mental Health Act 2013, Right to Information Act, Work Health & Safety legislation, and departmental policies and procedures.

Details of appointment:
Multiple full-time or part-time permanent positions, shift work (fully rotational), working up to 76 hours per fortnight, starting as soon as possible.
*Hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.
Applicants should note that this selection process may be used to fill similar vacancies for up to twelve months from the date of publication.
Salary: $106,570 to $112,440 per annum (Pro-rata), with an Employer 11.5% superannuation contribution.
Additional allowances may include:
* Post Graduate Allowance of up to 10%, based on qualification type.

Eligibility:
Applicants must meet the essential criteria:
* Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as a Registered Nurse.
Desirable criteria include:
* Possession of postgraduate mental health/psychiatric nursing qualifications or completion of an accredited hospital-based program leading to registration as a psychiatric nurse within Australia, New Zealand, Canada, or the UK.
* Extensive relevant psychiatric nursing experience and/or credentialing as a Mental Health Nurse by the Australian College of Mental Health Nurses or equivalent.
* Holding or working towards relevant tertiary qualifications.
