About the role
Ocula is seeking a highly skilled Sheetmetal Draftsman to join our growing team in Canberra, ACT. As a Sheetmetal Draftsman, you will play a crucial role in the design and development of innovative engineering solutions for our clients. This is a full-time position that offers the opportunity to work on diverse and challenging projects within the engineering industry.

What you'll be doing
* Producing detailed 2D and 3D CAD drawings for sheetmetal components and assemblies
* Interpreting engineering specifications and schematics to create accurate and compliant drawings
* Confidently prepare manufacturing-ready part, assembly and fabrication drawings with geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), bill of materials (BoMs) and exploded views
* Collaborating with engineers, project managers, and production teams to ensure drawings meet all technical and quality requirements
* Work closely with key stakeholders to ensure designs are feasible and meet project goals
* Participate in design reviews and provide input to improve manufacturability and cost-effectiveness of designs
* Be willing to contribute to continuous improvement of drawing standards, libraries and workflows
* Manage product data management (PDM) workflows and revision control, ensuring only current drawings hit the floor
* Staying up-to-date with industry standards, regulations, and best practices in sheetmetal drafting
* Providing support and guidance to junior drafting staff as needed
* Continuously seeking ways to improve drafting processes and streamline workflows
* Prepare and maintain technical documentation, including bills of materials (BOMs), part lists, and assembly instructions
* Document and report any discrepancies or issues found during onsite visits
* Modify and revise designs based on feedback and project requirements
* Manage multiple drafting projects simultaneously, ensuring timely completion and adherence to project schedules
* Communicate effectively with team members and stakeholders to provide updates on project progress
* Be eager to grow in your craft, take feedback well, and contribute to a shared design library
* Supporting the continuous improvement of design and manufacturing processes
What we're looking for
* Minimum 5 years of experience as a Sheetmetal Draftsman or similar role
* Proficient in using 2D and 3D CAD software, such as AutoCAD, Fusion360 and SolidWorks
* Exposure to full project lifecycles, from concept to build to installation
* Strong understanding of sheetmetal fabrication techniques and industry standards
* Strong documentation skills
* Excellent attention to detail and the ability to produce accurate, high-quality technical drawings
* Good problem-solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
* Effective communication skills, both written and verbal
* Relevant qualifications or certifications in engineering drafting or a related field
* Modern tools and systems, including a structured product data management (PDM) environment
* Experience working with Data Centre cabinets, containment and fibre optic structured cabling solutions preferred
Location
Canberra preferred, Sydney location will be considered for the right candidate
