Responsibilities
* Lead and manage a team of engineers and technical specialists to support Signalling & Control Systems to ensure safety and to command and control movement of rail vehicles, excluding telecom equipment or network equipment.
* Oversee the assessment and monitoring of Technical Assurance Organisations (TAOs), undertake investigations and performance assessments, and deliver effective and timely resolutions to technical issues to ensure safe, reliable, and sustainable outcomes.
* Contribute to the development, governance, and continuous improvement of engineering standards; provide advice on regulatory compliance under delegated technical authority from the Professional Head Signalling & Control Systems.
* Drive performance measurement of TAOs and participate in development of engineering standards and policy.
* Collaborate within a cross-functional team to deliver safe and reliable rail signalling outcomes and ensure alignment with NSW transport infrastructure objectives.
About You
* You will have a relevant tertiary qualification and relevant engineering knowledge coupled with professional engineering registration (or ability to obtain registration) and signalling design experience in both conventional signalling and new and emerging technologies.
* Your demonstrable extensive experience in rail signalling design, signalling principles, development and assurance of train control systems will see you effectively play a key role in operationalising the ETCS systems in NSW and ensuring a fit for purpose system.
* You will also have demonstrated knowledge of train operations and network management principles, including headway optimisation, capacity analysis, degraded mode operations, and risk-based decision frameworks, with proven ability to apply and advance digital engineering and model-based systems engineering (MBSE) tools and techniques to validate train control performance and system interfaces.
* Technical and high-level principles knowledge of ETCS design and implementation practices is a prerequisite for this role.
