Lead Civil Lawyer - Strategic Leadership Role
An exciting opportunity is available for a seasoned Civil Lawyer to lead a skilled team of lawyers in delivering vital community legal services.
The successful candidate will oversee the Civil Justice and Generalist legal practice, manage programs such as the Health Justice Partnership, Rental Stress Hub, and Deakin Lawyer Program, and contribute to strategic direction, law reform, and community engagement.
This leadership role involves:
* Leading and managing the Civil Justice team to foster excellence, collaboration, and innovation.
* Providing legal supervision, mentorship, and case direction to staff and volunteers.
* Overseeing delivery of key legal programs and ensuring compliance with risk management frameworks.
* Delivering high-quality legal services and maintaining a small, strategic casework load.
* Contributing to strategic planning, reporting, and organisational leadership.
* Engaging in community legal education, law reform, and stakeholder collaboration.
As a capable and strategic legal leader, you will bring:
* A strong civil law background with at least 7 years' post-admission experience.
* Proven leadership and staff supervision experience.
* Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
* Strong organisational and strategic thinking abilities.
* Understanding of trauma-informed and inclusive legal practice.
* Commitment to equity, access to justice, and community empowerment.
