# **About This Opportunity**Join the Nguyen Lab at IMB to analyse spatial transcriptomics data aimed at improving early melanoma diagnosis. As a **Senior Bioinformatician**, you will work with complex spatial data to uncover biological insights and build predictive models.This role offers an exciting opportunity to strengthen your research expertise and grow your emerging profile, while also contributing to service and engagement activities within the institute.Key responsibilities will include:* **Research:** Conduct internationally competitive research on brain cancer to identify predictive biomarkers for early‐stage melanoma. Analyse sequencing and imaging data from spatial transcriptomics using statistical and computational methods. Establish a research program, collaborate on research projects, seek and manage research funding, publish in reputable journals, utilize best practice research methodologies, and participate in project discussions.* **Supervision and Researcher Development:** Supervise students, recruit and manage employees, provide performance feedback and training, resolve conflicts, and ensure correct remuneration and benefits.* **Citizenship and Service:** Develop partnerships, demonstrate leadership through mentoring, engage in internal service roles and committees, perform administrative functions, provide support to colleagues, and uphold university values.This is a full-time (100%), fixed-term position for up to 12 months at Academic Level A.# **About You*** PhD (or significant progress towards PhD) in the area of bioinformatics, biostatistics, bioengineering, mathematics or a related discipline* Experience in cancer biology* Strong knowledge of statistics* Demonstrated experience with Python and R programming* Proven ability to efficiently plan and execute research activities, including preparing study plans and drafting results as scientific figures* Evidence of publications in reputable peer‐reviewed journals and conference presentations* High‐level organisational skills with a demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and follow structured work schedules* Ability to work collaboratively across multiple disciplines, with strong teamwork, and excellent written and oral communication skills in English, plus experience supervising undergraduate and postgraduate research studentsAppointment to this role is subject to the successful completion of relevant pre-employment checks, which may include verification of the right to work in Australia, qualifications.
